The Creative Learning Architect

Throughout the years, I’ve earned a reputation for being a creative and innovative L&D consultant.  Working in the Learning & Development industry for more than 20 years, I know that possessing a strong understanding of learning theories, and adult learning principles is great, but not enough to develop sound instructional designs. 

To design curriculum that is effective, efficient and engaging requires a full understanding of a company's business, its goals, perspective and culture. It requires a deeper understanding of how the company operates, why leaders perform as they do and how this impacts the employees.  It demands a keen observation of performance to understand the root causes of any gaps observed.  Data collection and perspective taking help paint a more accurate picture of a company's present state.  But,  we cannot stop there. 

Before you get behind the wheel of your car, you need to know where you are going.  The same is true in Curriculum Development.   What does the company's future state look like?  What are its goals, dreams and aspirations?  Once we know this, we can start designing a learning program to fill in those knowledge, skills and motivational gaps.  Then, the real fun begins!  Modality!  How will learning take place?  Virtually?  In the Classroom? In the Metaverse?  

If there is one thing the pandemic taught us, it is that learning takes place in many different ways.  And the L&D Industry will never be the same.
